CO-OPERATION PROJECTS

Operating Co-operation projects is a requirement of the LEADER+ agenda. These take place between Programmes throughout the U.K. and Europe . Herefordshire Rivers LEADER+ Programme is currently investigating links with other groups, details of which can be found below. These details will be updated as and when new proceedings are confirmed.

National Co-operation Projects

Orchards Project

This is both a local and national project.

All areas will look at the same problem: the destruction of orchards and the falling market for apples. Each project will address the issue in a different way, thus providing five potential solutions, each of which can easily be put into practice in Herefordshire.

The Bulmer Foundation (the applicant for the Herefordshire Rivers LEADER+ funding) will be managing the local element.

Wye Valley Walk

This is another local and national project, although the work to be done will be the same throughout all regions involved, unlike the Orchards Project above. The regions are linked together by the River Wye, and the project looks to enhance the Wye Valley as a whole.

The applicant for this project is the Wye Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

The timescale for this project is anticipated to take place between January 2006 and March 2008.

Trans-national Co-operation Projects

Laois LEADER+

Laois LEADER+ Group from Ireland have been contacted with the possibility of developing a joint walking festival with Herefordshire.

The lead applicant in this case would be the Tourism Department for Herefordshire Council. Tentative discussions have taken place with no formal suggestions put forward, as yet, but meetings and visits from both groups are provisionally booked for Summer 2005.

Vallee de la Sarthe ( France )

Contact has been initiated with this Local Action Group from France as their area and objectives are similar to ours.

Potentially, the idea was based around a joint tourism project, concentrating on the subject of river access. Unfortunately, no contact has been received back from the Vallee de la Sarthe group, so this project has been set-aside for the moment.
