MUSEUM ON THE MOVE HEDGEROWS EXHIBITION
Herefordshire is the most sparsely populated county in England. With this in mind, Museum on the Move provides a vital outreach service to communities all across Herefordshire. As well as bringing exhibitions about Herefordshire’s history, the service also presents the heritage and environmental aspects of the annual topic.
The Hedgerows Exhibition will inspire its audience through an interactive hedgerow, where visitors will be able to see what life in the hedgerow is like from “inside”. This is a chance to really understand the makings of a hedgerow, how nature works within a specific habitat, and the impact that pulling down hedgerows has on its surroundings.
The Museum on the Move scheme provides a variety of groups with the chance to use the service free of charge, such as:
- Rural Primary Schools
- Rural Secondary Schools
- Job Centre Plus
- Rural Rest Homes
- Rural Care Homes
- Traveller Day Centres
- Community Events
- Children’s Groups
This project will also target areas in the extremities of the county, therefore reaching a wider group of people, and encouraging them to take extra interest in an often over-looked aspect of their district.
Workshops related to this exhibition will take place in local Heritage Centres or environmental locations, and will help demonstrate the impact of modern lifestyles upon the environment, whilst encouraging local people to engage with countryside maintenance.
The Hedgerows Exhibition will tour the Parishes along the rivers between:
- 11th April – 2nd May 2005
- 4th October – 18th November 2005
A report will be published in summary at the end of the tour. It will share the experiences and conclusions that will be gathered throughout the tour, and will be distributed to Heritage Services sites across the county.
